Singing Jersey: A Tribute to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

August 12, 2024

The smells of aftershave and shoe polish linger in the air. The sound of the jukebox plays out of a diner as you walk by on the sidewalk. A crowd eagerly awaits outside with plenty of oxfords on feet and pomade in hair. Everyone is amped with excitement as they prepare to see the boys from Newark, New Jersey who reinvented pop music through story-driven lyricism and iconic falsetto notes: The Four Seasons.

With songs like “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” The Four C Notes pays homage to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons who charted hits in the 1960s and 1970s. The Four Seasons have sold over 175,000,000 records worldwide that includes five Number-One singles, 10 top-ten songs, and 15 Top 40 pop hits.

The Four C Notes, based in Chicago, is the only Midwestern tribute group who recreate the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. The show will feature performers Max Trotter, Ethan Lupp, Tyler Meyer, and Michael Ferraro while at Florida Studio Theatre. The group was created by John Michael Coppola, who is best known for his appearances in the extensive production of Jersey Boys in Chicago.

“In 2013, a bride here in Chicago was looking for a Frankie Valli tribute for her wedding reception,” says John Michael Coppola, The Four C Notes creator. “Being the only remaining cast member from Broadway in Chicago's run of Jersey Boys still living here, I was 'the guy in town' to make this a reality, and she tracked me down…Once word got around that there were 'these guys in town singing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons material,’ the universe took over from there and we just exploded!”

Amid newer music like the British Invasion and Elvis Presley, The Four Seasons harkened back to the older jazzy pop style music made popular by artists like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. While using this older style, The Four Seasons would mix musical influences like soul and rock to develop a unique sound for themselves.

The Four Seasons launched their first major hit in 1962: “Sherry.” The single enabled the band to receive label representation from Vee-Jay Records, which made them the first white group signed under the label. Unsurprisingly, the song became a number-one hit and sold over several million copies.

From 1962 to early 1964, the Beach Boys were the only band to match The Four Seasons in US record sales. The band’s first three Vee-Jay non-holiday single releases were the first time that a rock band hit #1 with three consecutive entries in the Billboard singles chart.

The Four C Notes perform only Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons to honor the legendary band and creator John Michael Coppola’s career. While they began as a request for a private event, the group now performs in performing arts centers and festivals around the United States, too.

The Four C Notes celebrates a classic American musical group through their mesmerizing harmonies and astonishing vocal ranges. Join The Four C Notes as they transport you back to the height of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons with sweet melodies and their soulful crooning!
