1966, Washington, D.C. Louie, a white F.B.I. audiologist, and Thalia, an African American store clerk, both love foreign films. Despite their growing infatuation, they struggle to contend with a country that has only just begun to accept their love, as well as the looming specter of Louie’s boss, J. Edgar Hoover. This tragi-comedy asks us to think about what it means to be a hero, and what it is about the silver screen that frightens and moves us to this day.
