The WRITE A PLAY Program at Florida Studio Theatre is an in-school educational outreach program, designed to inspire your students to be creative and to write plays. Every year, thousands of students across the state of Florida participate in this diverse program by seeing shows and submitting their own plays to the Young Playwrights Festival. WRITE A PLAY is more than just a performance, it's a comprehensive theatrical and literary experience that will influence your students for years to come.
Florida Studio Theatre's WRITE A PLAY Program is currently celebrating 16 years of inspiring children from Kindergarten to 12th Grade to write plays. Every season, the program culminates with the Young Playwrights Festival. This year, FST received plays from over 9,200 young playwrights in the state of Florida and around the world!

The Play that Sets the Example!
The classic tale of the young servant Androcles who meets and befriends a lion. Your students will see a well-written play performed by professional actors in Commedia dell’Arte style, illuminating the many creative possibilities of the theatre. This adaptation features some unforgettable characters. The old man hoards treasure while the captain is chauvanistic. Meanwhile, their servant Androcles who longs to be free meets the incredible lion, who likes to sing, dance, and roar! Follow these characters and more on their journey discovering freedom and friendship.

The Play that Inspires Writing!
SETTING. CHARACTER. CONFLICT. DIALOGUE. This play will inspire your students to write their own plays and participate in our 2008 Young Playwrights Festival. Our actors will actually perform at least 2 award winning plays written by youth as a model, in addition to using improvisation and participatory learning as tools to inspire writing. Actors will also come into your classrooms to further develop your students’ creative processes.
